š„āļø 3 Fast Ways to Beat the Straight Punch
Hereās what to do when you shouldāve punchedābut didnāt.
Hey Warrior,
Letās say you see it coming.
A clean, straight punch headed your way.
Youāre not flat-footed. Youāre not frozen.
But your hands arenāt where they should beāand youāve got half a second to do something.
But⦠what?
Letās dive in.
But first a word from our sponsor.
Run IRL ads as easily as PPC

We already broke down one way to respond to the straight punch in our Technique Drop.
(If you missed it, go read Wednesdayās edition.)
But what if you didnāt intercept?
What if you had to choose another path?
Letās break down three tactical optionsāand when they actually make sense.
Inside Parry + Opposite Hand Strike
This oneās clean, itās just not easy.
As the punch comes in, you use your lead hand to redirect theirs across your centerline.
Your rear hand fires immediately.
You are doing a deflect-and-hit, all in one flow.
It works best when thereās a little distance and the punch isnāt lightning fast.
If your coordination is sharp and your footworkās solid, this can be surgical.
But donāt try it cold.
Itās a high-risk move under adrenaline unless itās drilled until reflex.
The Slip
This is the sweet science version. Head movement only.
You shift off-line just enough to make the punch missāthen drive back in with power.
If youāre slippery, itās gold.
You take zero damage, waste no energy, and stay in range.
But hereās the truthā¦
ā¦slipping takes hours of timing and partner work.
And if you misjudge by an inch or a split second, youāre eating the punch anyway.
Master it, but donāt rely on it unless itās truly dialed in.
The Lean Back
Itās instinctive. And often underrated.
You shift your upper body backward while keeping your feet planted.
The punch stops short in front of youā¦
ā¦if you timed it right.
Itās fast. Itās easy to train.
But⦠itās range-dependent.
If you're close, leaning back just opens you up.
Worse, youāre now upright and disconnected from your base.
Use it when you see it early and have space. Just donāt get cocky with it.
Jump in the Operators Lounge
Which of these are you drilling? All? Any?
Which one actually works for you under pressure?
Post your thoughts or a short clipāweāll break it down together.
Before You Goā¦
When someone throws a punch your way are you reactingā¦
ā¦just or responding?
Know the difference. And train for both.
Adaptability wins.
