‘I have a knife and I’m gonna kill you
’

let me tell you about my friend Jay.

A guy with charm, wit, and a knack for attracting all the right (actually mostly wrong) people.

Jay went on a blind date that started like a rom-com and ended like a thriller.

He met her online. She seemed perfect—great conversation, shared interests, and stunning photos.

Their first date was set at a cozy restaurant. All seemed well until dessert.

As the night progressed, Jay noticed her behavior becoming erratic. She talked obsessively about their future together, despite it being their first meeting.

Jay, being the polite guy he is, tried to ease the situation and suggested calling it a night.

In the parking lot, things took a darker turn. She stood in front of his car, blocking his way, and started yelling.

‘I have a knife and I’m gonna kill you
’

Jay’s heart raced when he saw that one of her hands was hidden behind her back.

"Show me your hands," he demanded, trying to stay calm.

She refused, taking a step closer, eyes wild with fury. Jay knew he had to act fast.

Staying Safe on First Dates: Essential Tips

  1. Meet in Public Places đŸ™ïž Always choose a public place for your first date. Restaurants, cafes, or parks with lots of people around. It’s safer and provides an easy escape route if things go south.

  2. Share Your Plans đŸ“± Let a friend or family member know where you’re going and who you’re meeting. Share your location via your phone’s GPS and set up a check-in time.

  3. Stay Sober đŸčđŸš« Keep your wits about you. If you’re drinking, do so in moderation. It’s crucial to stay aware of your surroundings and the person you’re with.

  4. Watch Your Belongings đŸ‘œ Keep an eye on your drink and personal items. If you need to use the restroom, take your drink with you or leave it where you can see it.

  5. Trust Your Instincts đŸ§  If something feels off, it probably is. Don’t be afraid to end the date early. Your safety comes first.

  6. Know Basic Self-Defense đŸ„‹ Familiarize yourself with basic self-defense techniques. Knowing how to break free from a grab or defend against an attack can be lifesaving. Krav Maga, for instance, offers practical and straightforward techniques that are easy to learn and effective.

The Parking Lot Showdown

Back to Jay.

In the parking lot, his instincts kicked in. He remembered the self-defense tips he had read (from a certain newsletter, perhaps?). He kept a safe distance and stayed alert.

She lunged, but Jay was ready. He sidestepped, keeping his car between them, and yelled for help.

The commotion attracted the attention of a passerby, who called the police.

Jay’s date, realizing the situation was out of her control, revealed her empty hand.

She had been bluffing all along, trying to intimidate him. The police arrived soon after, and Jay was safe.
