š Hey Warrior,
Skilled fighters are always one step ahead.
Why?
Itās not magicāit's footwork.
From boxing rings to MMA cages, the one thing every champion hasā¦
ā¦is the ability to move effectively.
Today, we're look at what combat sports can teach us about footwork and evasion and itās importance in real life self defense...
Basic Footwork for Self-Defense
In self-defense staying in motion isn't just about dodging attacksā¦
ā¦it's about maintaining control, creating space, and ensuring you always have an escape route.
Let's look at one of the simplest yet most effective footwork principles from boxingā¦
ā¦the pivot step.
Pivot Step Drill:
Start in a balanced fighting stance with your feet shoulder-width apart.
Shift your weight slightly onto your front foot.
Quickly pivot your back foot around, repositioning your stance to face a different angle.
Practice this movement repeatedly, pivoting both clockwise and counterclockwise.
This pivot helps you avoid incoming threats, allows quick directional changes, and positions you ideally to counter or flee the scene.
Hereās a video I found with some footwork drill you can do at home:
Final Thoughts
Footwork isn't just agilityāit's your tactical advantage.
By mastering even basic movements, you gain the confidence to handle situations calmly and effectively.
Remember, evasion isn't cowardiceā¦
ā¦it's smart self-defense.
Stay light on your feet and ready to move.
Stay safe, stay prepared.
